First and foremost a special thank you goes out to Ms. Tyra and Ms. Aris for being the shutterbugs who captured the club's loveliness in a group photo! For many of us, it was our first time meeting each other - let's not let it be our last. I hope to see many of you at the upcoming meetings or other events.

Nubian Circle Book Club - 27 Aug 2016

Needless to say, we had a great time discussing

I Almost Forgot About You

Terry McMillan

  • Many of the members could relate to the themes of restlessness, self-discovery, reinvention, seeking closure with past relationships, sisterly support/friendship, and the challenges of motherhood, daughterhood, etc.

  • We loved the friendship between Georgia and Wanda. Some were enthralled with the evolution of Abraham, entertained with Georgia's journey and finding love and happiness late in life.

  • Many were disappointed with:

  • Character development: Stan was a bit too perfect and there were unanswered questions about his past; some thought Georgia fell for him a bit too quickly and easily. Violet - was she really a "friend?"

  • The ending: felt it was a bit rushed and too tidy and left readers wanting a bit more.

  • The NCBC group average is 3.65 which is not bad! Individual ratings are as follows:

Tyra: 3.5

Lynda: 4

Veda: 4

Richelle: 3.5

Aris: 3

Claudia: 3.5

Bertina: 3.5

Dossi: 4

Renee: 3.5

Phyllis: 4

Janie, Lana, and Kelda came to assess the club's vibe and participate in the discussion. We enjoyed having them with us. Each considered picking up the book after our discussion.
