A big THANK YOU to our moderator, Chanell, for facilitating an in-depth, provoking discussion of The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead while enjoying a wonderful Italian luncheon at Armando's in Winter Park!

OUR THOUGHTS & RATINGS

Chanell, Our Moderator - 3.5: The book was slow and the author skirted the abuse experienced by the boys, which was disappointing. I wanted justice for the boys, even if it was only in the story.
Kyle, Our Guest - 4: Based on what she knows about the author, she's conflicted but found the novel entertaining.
Juliet - 3.5: Good but expected more, as a result ended up skimming through the book.
Angela - 3: She expected more about boys' lives and personal stories, will not finish book.
Syreeta - 3.5: Has not read the book, yet.
Shoni - 3: This book did not hold her attention.
Davita - 3.5: The plot held up but it was undeveloped.
Natalie - 3: Forced herself to finish the book, finding it slightly entertaining, yet slow. She wanted more history and background information.
Phyllis - 3: "MEH", It was OK, expected more hard-hitting facts and atrocities to be explored and detailed in the book; instead it seemed as the author opted to take a more subtle approach to storytelling. The story was a blotch on the state of Florida and was disappointed that this offering seemed to soften the horrific acts that occurred to make it more palatable to the masses, perhaps.
