Davita led the discussion of Nicole Dennis-Benn's debut novel, Here Comes The Sun. Davita and I completed the novel and really enjoyed it. Briefly, here are our outtakes:

Davita: 4.5 rating- Enjoyed the characterization and the many themes in the book. Wish that the book could have gone on a little longer. Also thought that the book had an abrupt ending.
Phyllis: 4.5 rating- Strong plot, good characterization. Great themes for discussion, enjoyed the historical aspects of colonialism (sexism, colorism, etc) and socio-economic aspects and commentary of the privatization of the island (driven by tourism). I thought the pacing was good, the storytelling was great, but I found the ending of the book a bit rushed and open-ended. If there's a sequel, I'm interested in reading it and any other novels the author releases.

In addition to a great discussion and meal, we were joined by guest Janie Owens, author of How to Potty Train a One Year Old in Two Days.
According to her, this is a book for the new generation of parents. If you're interested, please contact her at 334 737 8227 or 407 571 9293.
The cost is $10.00.
