Member Recap
Finding Amos by J. D Mason, Bernice L. McFadden, and Reshonda Tate Billingsley
NCBC Group Rating: 3.3 of 5
Dossi: 3 - Felt the characters told their story well; experienced some problems with novel's structure
Angela: 4 - Overall, entertained by the story; but didn't think the plot related to the title
Juliet: 3.5/4 - Being a nurse, the medical aspect and hospital scenes were relatable; familiar scenes of elderly not having relatives/anyone visit; good perspectives of people hurting people/children and the lifelong ramifications of such actions
Tracy: 3 - The novel felt disjointed, as if the authors didn't talk to each other
Davita: 3/3.5 - Enjoyed the beginning more; seemed like a different book toward the end. Liked that author's tackled the Alzheimer's angle - not seen much in (AA) literature
Phyllis: 2/2.5 - Felt the authors "phoned" in novel; lack of depth in characters and plot; characters were cookie-cutter/cardboard and one dimensional (ex: the successful sister, the angry sister, the sweet sister, etc). Plot was predictable. Would not recommend
Seante': Didn't read
Leslie: Didn't read and based on discussion, will not pick up
Jasmine: Didn't read
Miscellaneous
Dossi enjoys books by Carl Weber
Seante' recommends the book to movie: Half A Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Adichie
Davita is learning a lot about the strained friendship between Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali from Blood Brothers by Randy Roberts
Tracy just finished the classic, Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison
